xTool S1 Enclosed Diode Laser Cutter & Engraver
The xTool S1 is a fully enclosed, Class 1 diode laser cutter and engraver designed for Australian makers, small businesses, schools and creative workshops. Available with either a 20W or 40W diode laser module, it combines powerful material processing, precise positioning and a generous working area in a compact benchtop machine.
Choose the xTool S1 40W when cutting speed and thicker materials are your priority, or select the xTool S1 20W for a smaller laser spot suited to fine engraving while retaining capable cutting performance.
The enclosed design, one-click autofocus and Pin-point Positioning™ system make the S1 easier to operate than a traditional open-frame diode laser. It is a practical option for creating signs, personalised products, home décor, models, prototypes, packaging, leather goods and small-batch commercial work.
Why Choose the xTool S1?
- 20W and 40W power options: Choose finer engraving versatility or faster, thicker cutting.
- Fully enclosed Class 1 design: Helps limit access to the laser beam during normal operation.
- Up to 600mm/s processing speed: Suitable for detailed projects, repeat production and batch work.
- Pin-point Positioning™: Accurately place designs without relying on a conventional overhead camera.
- One-click autofocus: Simplifies setup across materials with different thicknesses.
- Large working area: Process signs, panels, product blanks and multiple smaller items in one job.
- Switchable laser modules: Expand the machine with compatible diode and 1064nm infrared modules.
- Rotary engraving compatibility: Add the optional xTool RA2 Pro for tumblers, glasses, rings and cylindrical products.
- Expandable passthrough processing: Use the optional Automatic Conveyor Feeder for projects up to 3000mm long.
- USB and Wi-Fi connectivity: Connect the S1 to your preferred compatible computer setup.
xTool S1 20W vs 40W: Which One Should You Choose?
| Feature | xTool S1 20W | xTool S1 40W |
|---|---|---|
| Best suited to | Detailed engraving, versatile everyday cutting and mixed creative work | Faster production, thicker cutting and higher-volume workshop use |
| Laser spot size | 0.08 × 0.06mm | 0.08 × 0.10mm |
| Working area | 498 × 330mm | 498 × 319mm |
| Maximum working speed | Up to 600mm/s | Up to 600mm/s |
| Manufacturer cutting examples | Up to 10mm cherry wood, 10mm basswood plywood or 8mm black acrylic in one pass under specified test conditions | Up to 18mm cherry wood, 15mm basswood plywood or 15mm black acrylic in one pass under specified test conditions |
The 20W S1 is generally the better choice when engraving detail and versatility matter more than maximum cutting power. Its smaller laser spot can produce finer lines and detailed surface engraving.
The 40W S1 is better suited to cutting thicker wood, processing materials faster and producing larger quantities. It is the stronger option for commercial signage, product manufacturing and workshops where cutting efficiency is the priority.
What Materials Can the xTool S1 Cut?
With the appropriate settings and material preparation, the 20W and 40W diode modules can cut compatible materials including:
- Laser-safe plywood and selected solid woods
- MDF
- Paper and cardboard
- Natural leather
- Felt and selected fabrics
- Selected dark, opaque acrylic
Important acrylic limitation: A blue diode laser does not process every acrylic colour. The S1 is best suited to selected dark and opaque acrylics. Clear, white, highly reflective and some light-coloured acrylics may not cut or engrave correctly. A CO₂ laser is generally more suitable when you need to process clear acrylic or a broader range of acrylic colours.
Explore compatible laser engraving materials, acrylic sheets, wood and blanks available from Pixel Burn.
What Materials Can the xTool S1 Engrave?
The diode laser module can engrave or surface-mark a broad range of compatible materials, including:
- Wood, bamboo, MDF and plywood
- Natural leather and selected coated leather products
- Paper, cardboard, cork, felt and fabric
- Selected dark or opaque acrylic
- Coated, painted, plated or anodised metal
- Compatible stainless steel surfaces
- Dark glass, ceramic, stone, slate, marble and brick
Actual results depend on the material composition, colour, coating, thickness and machine settings. Always confirm that a material is laser-safe before processing it.
Optional 2W 1064nm Infrared Laser Module
Add the compatible xTool S1 2W 1064nm infrared laser module when you need finer marking on many bare metals and selected plastics. Its approximately 0.03 × 0.03mm laser spot is suited to detailed work such as jewellery, metal business cards, hardware, tools, electronic components, identification plates and small branded products.
The infrared module expands the S1 beyond the normal material range of a blue diode laser. It is intended primarily for engraving and marking rather than cutting metal.
Accurate Placement Without an Overhead Camera
The xTool S1 uses Pin-point Positioning™ to map the processing area and help you place designs accurately on your material. You can mark reference points, position artwork around existing features and arrange multiple designs for batch production.
The system is particularly useful when engraving product blanks, pre-cut shapes and items that need artwork placed in a specific location.
Large Projects and Batch Production
The standard working area measures approximately 498 × 319mm on the 40W model and 498 × 330mm on the 20W model. This provides enough space for larger signs, home décor, cutting boards, leather panels and grouped product blanks.
With the optional xTool Automatic Conveyor Feeder and the required additional transmission rails, the processing area can be expanded to approximately 470 × 3000mm. This allows you to work with long signs, timber panels and repeated production layouts that would not fit inside the standard machine bed.
Rotary and Curved Surface Engraving
The xTool S1 is compatible with the optional xTool RA2 Pro rotary attachment. This expands your engraving capabilities to cylindrical, spherical and ring-shaped products, depending on the selected rotary configuration.
Suitable projects can include:
- Tumblers and drink bottles
- Glasses and mugs
- Rings and jewellery
- Round containers
- Cylindrical product blanks

Class 1 Enclosed Laser Safety
The xTool S1 features a fully enclosed Class 1 design with an enclosure made from UL94-V0 flame-retardant material. The enclosure helps limit direct access to the laser beam during normal operation and provides more protection than an open-frame diode laser.
Class 1 does not mean the machine can be operated without ventilation or supervision. Cutting and engraving can produce smoke, fumes and airborne particles. The S1 must be connected to suitable external extraction or a compatible filtration system, operated with laser-safe materials and monitored throughout processing.
Software and Connectivity
The xTool S1 connects through USB or Wi-Fi and is designed to operate with xTool’s current software platform, xTool Studio. xTool software provides access to machine-specific features including positioning, material measurement, curved surface functions, project preparation and compatible accessory workflows.
The S1 also supports LightBurn for core functions such as framing, focusing, processing and compatible RA2 Pro operation. Some S1-specific features may only be available through xTool software.
Choosing Your xTool S1 Package
The xTool S1 is available in multiple package configurations, including Basic Kit, Deluxe Kit and All-in-1 SafetyPro™ Bundle options. Package inclusions vary by the selected machine power and bundle.
- Basic Kit: Best when you need the essential machine setup and prefer to add accessories separately.
- Deluxe Kit: Suited to makers and businesses wanting a broader accessory setup from the beginning.
- All-in-1 SafetyPro™ Bundle: Designed for more frequent operation where additional extraction, filtration or safety accessories are required.
Please check the selected variant and package inclusions before ordering, as accessories are not automatically included with every configuration.
